Our Philosophy

What is Arts Integration?

Arts Integration is an approach to teaching in which students construct and demonstrate understanding through an art form. Students engage in a creative process which connects an art form and another subject area and meets evolving objectives in both.

Arts integration is learning through the arts; acting out historical events, poetry combined with music, or the spatial and musical connections between dance and math, allow students to learn beyond rote memorization of facts. These multi-faceted approaches provide students with much needed opportunities to be actively involved with the curriculum and utilize multiple intellegences. Students should be immersed with the arts in meaningful ways throughout the school day. The arts offers entry points for students with special needs, limited English proficiency, and a variety of learning needs. By offering arts integrated curriculum, higher order thinking skills, risk taking, and creativity are enhanced.
